FN-11
The FN-11 Work Group was established by the MHSIP Policy Group at their Fall 1996 meeting, following a planning meeting with current and past members to discuss the future of MHSIP. The title for the work group, "FN-11," is a reference to the document number of a previous MHSIP report: FN-10, Data Standards for Mental Health Decision Support Systems, 1989, NIMH, that has been, since its publication, the reference "bible" for people concerned with developing comparable, integrated mental health data systems in the public sector. A Charge was established for the work group to produce the next FN-10, i.e., FN-11. The task was to be accomplished by reviewing and incorporating the data system recommendations in FN-10, and those in other MHSIP documents that have been produced since 1989 to address the needs of childrens service systems, performance indicator systems, and report cards. Based on a conference call held in December 1996 among work group members and CMHS staff, a draft Handbook of Mental Health Data was produced which drew information about MHSIP values, unresolved data issues, minimum data recommendations, and data standard development activities, from earlier MHSIP documents. The handbook was presented at the 1997 National Mental Health Statistics Conference. Many of the elements of the handbook are included in this website. An Addendum to the Work Group Charge, made in August 1997, led to the compilation of a set of tables of recommended data elements based on FN-10 and other MHSIP reports. The tables were presented at the 1998 National Mental Health Statistics Conference. Most recently, this website (WWW.MHSIP.ORG) has been established to provide a repository for the products of the FN-11 Work Group and many of the preceding task force reports and documents produced by the MHSIP Policy Group and others concerned with the development of mental health data standards.
