PURPOSE:
- to share resources including State system information, technology, skills and experience
- to develop capabilities and advance utilization of information systems in local and State mental health agencies
- to share data among diverse human service organizations
- to promote the development and use of compatible decision support systems, and interagency and interstate data sharing
Major Activities:
1. Survey of consumer projects
- Survey of the current status of consumer survey projects among the SoSMUG states as of March, 1998
- Preliminary report compiled
2. SoSMUG report on consumer surveys and assessment instruments
- Survey of consumer survey projects in 13 SoSMUG and 5 western states as of May, 1997. Also includes a table describing 27 of the most commonly identified assessment instruments used by the reporting states.
3. Use of Unique Identifiers in State Mental Health Services: National Survey Data
- State level information on selection, implementation, and operation of client identifiers currently used in mental health information systems

4. Inpatient Utilization Statistics and Reports Conventions
- development of standardized rate calculation formulas, identification of included and excluded populations, establishment of standard data elements, production of sample reports
- exploration of methods for developing unit costs for services
- comparison of regional inpatient staffing levels

Future projects of the Southeastern region will examine the following topics:
- outcome measures
- standards of care and best practices

- consumer satisfaction surveys
